Greyhounds, whippets, salukis and other sighthounds gathered together on Saturday 15 June for a fun dog show at the Shield Stables in Charlton Village near Shepperton. The Surrey Sighthound Show has been established as a regional event to promote greyhounds and other sighthounds as wonderful pets, raise money for sighthound charities, and provide a fun day out for the owners.
This was the second dog show just for sighthounds that has been organised by Surrey-based sighthound charity Greys for Greys, in partnership with the Surrey Sighthound Walking Group, a sociable walking group for sighthounds and their owners based in and around Surrey. It attracted dogs not just from across the Surrey but from neighbouring counties, London, and as far afield as Suffolk.
The show raised over £750 charities based in Surrey – Lurcher SOS, Celia Cross Greyhound Trust and Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare, as well as Suffolk-based charity, the Mildenhall Greyhound Trust.
Denise Dubarbier, one of the show’s organisers, said, “It was wonderful to see so many gorgeous dogs together at the show and to see their proud owners enjoying themselves. We are incredibly grateful to everybody who came along and supported it and who helped us to raise much needed funds for sighthound rescue charities.”
Greys for Greys is a Surrey-based charity which works with other charities to help older greyhounds and sighthounds as well as providing support to older people who have sighthounds as pets. Working alongside sighthound rescue and rehoming charities we provide advice and support; provide practical help and raise funds for other charities.
Greys for Greys who have ambitions to grow the show over the coming years: the next show, the Autumn Show, will be on Saturday 28 September 2019 at the Shield Stables, Charlton Village. For more information, visit the website.
