The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home (CDCH) has launched an urgent appeal to help an 8-month-old French Bulldog named Olive, who arrived at the centre in desperate need of emergency care.
With her striking blue eyes and affectionate nature, Olive quickly won the hearts of everyone she met, despite the excruciating pain she was in. Her femur is broken, and without immediate specialist surgery to pin and plate the bone, she faces a life of suffering and potential long-term disability. The operation is just the start of Olive’s long road to recovery.
Once her surgery is complete, Olive will remain under veterinary care for the rest of the week before returning to CDCH, where she’ll need weeks of strict crate rest. Then, with ongoing support from the charity, she’ll begin a lengthy programme of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to help her regain strength and mobility in the leg.
“Olive is an incredibly sweet puppy,” says Amy Souster, Animal Operations Lead at CDCH.
“Despite her condition, she is enjoying interactions with every person she meets and has won the hearts of the Animal Carers and Veterinary team who are working around the clock to ensure she has everything she needs.”
The cost of Olive’s surgery and aftercare is expected to reach £6,000 – a significant sum for the small Gloucestershire-based charity.
CDCH doesn’t know exactly how Olive sustained her injury. What they do know is that she is one of a growing number of animals arriving at their doors due to the pressures of the cost of living crisis. Families who love their pets are facing heartbreaking decisions when they cannot afford the rising costs of veterinary care. That’s where CDCH steps in, to make sure no animal suffers simply because of cost. But they can’t do it alone.
The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home is now asking for the public’s help to raise the funds needed for Olive’s operation and rehabilitation. Donations, big or small, will directly support Olive’s care, and help ensure that CDCH can continue to be there for vulnerable pets across the region.
