A dog owner is appealing for help in finding her chihuahua, Piglet, who went missing during a burglary in Harefield, north-west London.
Mel Clements has been searching for Piglet since 28 March last year when he vanished from a canal boat moored at Copper Mill Lock on the Grand Union Canal. The case has gained national attention, including coverage on GB News.
Piglet was on the boat while Mel visited a friend when a thief broke in to steal an electric scooter. It is believed that the noise of smashing glass startled Piglet, causing him to flee along the canal towpath. A cyclist, who identified himself as “Matt,” later told Mel that he had seen Piglet running in the opposite direction and had chased him until the dog disappeared under gates near a waterworks. He then led Mel to the spot but there was no sign of Piglet.
Mel has since enlisted the help of pet detective Colin Butcher, who believes the man may have misled her. “Matt” is described as being in his late 20s, slim, around 5’8”, with a pale complexion, fair hair, and possibly a stutter. He was wearing a rucksack and claimed to cycle along the towpath daily. Two witnesses have recently come forward, stating they saw Piglet at 5.30 pm that day near Park Lane. They attempted to catch him, but he ran onto the bridge where Park Lane meets Copper Mill Lane.
Mel described Piglet as “the love of my life, my reason for being,” and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Somebody must know something, anything. The smallest bit of information could be relevant. Please come forward. Help me find Piglet.”
A fundraising appeal has been set up to support the search.
