The RSPCA has released CCTV images showing a man who left a dying dog at Animal Trust Vets in Birkenhead, saying he had found her abandoned in Victoria Park.
As he left without giving his name or any contact details, the RSPCA is looking to speak to him to try and find out how the dog came to be dumped in such a dreadful state.
The bulldog-type dog was “severely malnourished and in a collapsed state, with a series of severe health problems – including hypothermia, an eye infection and a serious untreated ear infection”. She also had a caesarean section scar, which suggests she may have been used for breeding.
Despite 24-hours of emergency treatment, vets felt they had no choice but to put the dog to sleep due to the severity of her condition.
RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes said, “While we’ve seen an outpouring of concern from the local community about the condition this poor dog was found in, we’re still trying to find out what happened.
“We are really keen to speak to the individual who reported finding this dog in Victoria Park in Birkenhead, and took her to the vets. We’re now in a position to release CCTV images of this man, as we are hopeful he will have information which can really help our enquiries. There is no suggestion that we believe this man is responsible.”
Unfortunately, as the man was wearing a face mask and hat, there are no shots showing his features – but it is all the investigators have to work with.
He added, “This poor bulldog-type dog was in such a bad way – and we really need to find out how she was allowed to get in such a poor condition, and the circumstances behind her neglect and abandonment.
