Facebook live coming up! Today (Wednesday 24 June) at 8pm, I will talk with the amazing Professor John Cooper QC, defender of the underdog. He helped end trophy hunting, and he’s working to change the Breed Specific Legislation, introduce a law on Pet Theft… and tackling human rights, too!
Dog theft is a huge concern for dog owners, as it is on the rise due to the high potential gain – either by selling or breeding them – and low risk, as it is considered a no more serious crime than stealing one’s mobile phone. But a phone can be replaced – a member of the family cannot.
A petition is ongoing to make pet theft crime a specific offence with custodial sentences. The Government’s response was that “the sentencing guidelines now take account of the emotional distress and harm that theft of personal items such as a pet can have on the victim and recommends higher penalties for such offences” – but pet thieves keep getting away with a slap on the wrist.
On July 1st I’ll be talking live with Jordan Shelley – that’s right, the chap whose life I ruined! But he’s forgiven me.
