CBeebies have announced Tom Hardy’s fifth and final episode of ‘Bedtime Story’ will be aired as a tribute to his late dog, Woody, who died in June aged just six, having suffered with aggressive polymyositis.
The A-list actor and renowned dog lover will read Fleabag by Helen Stephens, a children’s story about the friendship between a young boy and his scruffy canine best friend. The episode was recorded last year, so Woody can be seen settled beside Hardy in the clip, as in the actor’s previous appearances on the show.

Hardy has made no secret of the intense grief he has suffered following Woody’s death. He wrote a lengthy blog post about his feelings, which was published by a fan site. It included some heartbreaking lines, such as, “I am ultimately grateful for his loyal companionship and love and it is of some great comfort that he is no longer suffering. Above all I am completely gutted. The world for me was a better place with him in it and by my side.”
Hardy found Woody as a stray puppy one night on a motorway, when the actor was filming Lawless in Atlanta in the USA. Woody was brought home to the UK, where he became a regular feature of Hardy’s red carpet appearances and accompanied the actor to film sets. The dog even starred in the BBC series Peaky Blinders.
Hardy’s final ‘Bedtime Story’ will air on CBeebies on National Dog Day on 26 August, at 6.50pm.
