Take part in this month’s Great Debate: with the first dog food made from lab-grown meat now available in the UK, would you feed it to your dog?
Lab-grown meat, also known as cultivated meat, is produced by growing animal cells in a controlled environment rather than raising and slaughtering livestock. Supporters see it as a sustainable and ethical alternative to traditional meat, reducing the environmental impact of pet food production while ensuring high nutritional quality. With growing concerns about climate change, deforestation, and the pet food industry’s reliance on factory farming, some owners believe that cultivated meat could be the future of dog food.
Others remain sceptical. Some dog owners are concerned about feeding their pets something that does not come from a naturally raised animal. Questions have been raised about the long-term health effects, the processing methods, and whether cultivated meat truly offers the same benefits as traditional meat. There are also those who feel that despite its ethical appeal, it is still an unnatural option for dogs, whose diets have long been based on real, farmed meat.
