Boo was left out with the rubbish when his family was allegedly evicted from their Michigan home, but the loyal dog refused to leave the street, living in hope his owners would return for him. It led to a picture that was shared around the world; Boo, curled up on an abandoned mattress, clinging to the comfort of his family's scent.
Liz Marie shared the now famous photo captured by the Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue (DYDR) on Facebook, writing, “This picture absolutely breaks my heart, I am literally in tears. Meet Boo, this beautiful boy was left behind with the trash and belongings when the family moved out.
“He stayed right by their stuff and never left it, confused and lonely.”
Rescuers worked for 11 hours over two days to gain nervous Boo's trust, finally able to get him into a car with the help of some tasty fast food. It's thought he was living by himself for a whole month.
Now Boo is settled in well to a temporary foster home. On Sunday, DYDR shared pictures on him relaxing on a real bed, with the message, “Boo did great his first night in new foster home and had lots of cuddles and has been on two walks today so far.”
While Boo is still receiving veterinary treatment, it's hoped that a forever home isn't too far out of reach and he should be ready for a loving new family in about six months time. In the meantime, the rescue organisation is fundraising for Boo. To find out how you can help, visit the Facebook page.
